I bought a lathe (and I’m hooked)

Garage Upgrades

So I’ve been building a decent tool collection since I moved into my home. Once I started getting into bigger tools, I wanted more bigger tools. So I’ve hit that point where a lathe was my next goal.
After doing some research and deciding on what is my minimum size for a workpiece, I decided to get a Grizzly G0602 during their summer sale. It being a 10×22 lathe should be plenty for my immediate needs while still being a bench top lathe.

As soon as I clicked buy on the machine along with a chuck and morse taper adapter, I did what I probably shouldn’t have and immediately started buying tools. A set of preground HSS tool bits, center drills, a single point gnurling tool, and probably a few other things. Tools started streaming in while I sat impatiently waiting for the call from the freight company setting up delivery.

That day came. The call was made. It was to be a glorious Wednesday. The delivery driver was super nice and even offered to move it into the garage for me, above and beyond. With the help of a friend we had it uncrated before the driver even managed to get of our street. Everything was packaged well with nothing looking out of place or damaged.

Getting onto the bench was rather simple. A couple straps to make the cradle demonstrated in the manual (with a few extra to stabilize/balance it in a few places) and we had it on it’s new bench.
I then went through the rest of the day looking through the manual and running the break in procedure.

And with that, I have a lathe! I have many projects in mind, and I’m sure many more to come. I’m also looking for any cool ideas for tools to make or simple beginner projects, so let me know your ideas!
