About Me
New ideas, new topics, new challenges, new food; I love new things. Whether it is learning a new thing myself or helping others learn new things, I love a challenge. I approach everything with a healthy dose of optimism, a balance of planning and execution, and a willingness to admit that goals and timelines can change; no project goes without completion (one day)
My family has always known I would be an engineer. My favorite toys when I was a kid were the ones with assembly required. Toys that didn’t have assembly were promptly disassembled to see how they worked. That exploration never ended and was marked with a few notable milestones. First was our first family computer and internet. Good or bad, I was allowed unrestricted access to PCs. There were many late nights exploring many sources of information and new project resources. Next was the introduction of structure to my engineering through First Lego League (FLL). The basics of project management, intro engineering methodologies, and understanding what other types of careers might be out there near engineering were major elements I learned here. Naturally my career progressed into First Robotics Competition (FRC) as I entered high school. This was the next step in the aspects I learned in FLL with the introduction of one of my favorite soft skills: Helping others learn. I have always enjoyed the opportunity to share knowledge whether it’s been teaching children STEAM fields, friends and fellow students our subject materials, or colleagues the latest project update/information
I was fortunate to start my engineering experience early and have enjoyed carrying it through my entire life.
It is important that I let my mind rest every once in a while. Much of my life outside of my technical life/hobbies involves my wife and pets. If I had to boil it down, our main hobby would be food. We both enjoy baking (her sweets, me bread) and most of our vacations/free time are spent finding new food. We try and keep the weight down and food intake up though with outdoor activities. Hiking and camping are big for us, and those are usually accompanied with biking and water activities. We have a goal to hit all 50 states and all 63 national parks and that is a lot of exploration to look forward to.
