A quick weeknight project – Wood Bin

Quick Projects

I am a collector of things and scraps. So much so that they tend to overflow my storage. This was the case for all my wood scraps which were stored in the old recycling bin from my city. Time to put those scraps to work and make a more usable wood storage bin that is also moveable (everything must be on wheels).

My corner mess

First was deciding on a size. I wanted bigger than the original box, but I don’t have any other spots in the garage to devote to this. So the biggest I could get without blocking the EV charger was 2ft by 3ft. Conveniently in my reorg of the garage, I had some pegboard panels ripe for the picking. First was ripping down the 2×4 piece to 2×3. Sorted with the circular saw. Next was framing up the bottom.

This might work

I had these casters from an old project, overkill for the task but time to get them out to size and mounted

Bottom framed

And then it was just time to make some “bins.” I split it into two 1×3 bins, small stuff up front, big stuff in back. Putting all the random scraps to good use

I have a lot less scraps now

And then wheel it into position with the remaining scraps shoved in. So much nicer to find bits now and I can move it clean when all the leaves blow in!

You can see some of my other various upgrades in the background. I’m looking forward to get those written up here. I look forward to seeing any questions and comments from you!
